CARDBOARD POLICE

Card Curiosity has posted a weekly Topps release rundown all summer, and until last night every one of them ended in exclamation marks. The video that went up on August 31 is titled "A SLOW START FOR TOPPS IN SEPTEMBER?! Topps New Releases 1st Week of September 2026." Same channel, same recurring format, same slot at the top of the month — and the superlative has flipped.

What the Title Stakes

The claim on the marquee is narrow and checkable: that the first week of September is a quiet one for Topps. That is the whole of what this article takes from the video. What the episode argues, which products it singles out and where it lands are the creator's to make — go watch it above.

The Channel's Own Record

Card Curiosity's public feed carries its last fifteen uploads, and four of them are entries in this weekly release series:

  • August 17 — "HUGE WEEK OF TOPPS RELEASES!!! 🔥 3rd Week of August 2026"
  • August 24 — "SAPPHIRE BASEBALL AND OTHERS RELEASING FROM TOPPS THIS WEEK!!! 🔥 4th Week of August 2026"
  • August 25 — "HUGE TOPPS RELEASES THIS WEEK!!! 🔥 4th Week of August 2026"
  • August 31 — "A SLOW START FOR TOPPS IN SEPTEMBER?! 🫠 Topps New Releases 1st Week of September 2026"

Three entries ending in exclamation marks and a flame, two of them leading with "HUGE" — then a question mark and a melting face. On a channel that files the same segment every week, the register of its own headline is a data point.

This blog has been reading that series for a while. CASE #0139 covered Card Curiosity's first-week-of-July breakdown, and the article opened by calling July "one of the busiest release months of the 2026 baseball card calendar." CASE #0147 followed with the second week of July, anchored on Topps Finest. Two months later, the same channel, in the same slot, is asking whether the month has stalled.

The Calendar Agrees

The title is not just a mood. Heavy's 2026 release calendar presently lists these products for the opening days of September:

  • September 2 — 2025-26 Fleer Ultra PWHL Hockey, 2025-26 Upper Deck Premier Hockey, 2026 Panini Impeccable WNBA Basketball, 2026 Panini Three and Two Baseball, 2026 Upper Deck Team Canada Juniors Hockey
  • September 4 — 2026 Score-A-Treat Multi-Sport
  • September 9 — 2026 Bowman Chrome Baseball
  • September 10 — Upper Deck Platinum

Read the brand names. Upper Deck three times, Panini twice, Fleer once. In the entire first week, the calendar as it currently stands lists nothing from Topps at all. The first Topps-family product on it is Bowman Chrome Baseball on September 9 — and that is week two.

Analysis: A release calendar is a schedule, not a census; manufacturers add and move dates, and a list that shows no Topps product this week may not show none by Friday. But the schedule as published lines up with what the video's title claims, which is more than a hobby headline usually gets. It also explains why the quiet reads as sharply as it does. Four days ago this blog covered two separate creators working the launch of 2026 Topps Flagship Football (CASE #0291 and CASE #0292) — a Mendoza short print at $6,500, retail boxes opened on release day. That was August 28. One week later the calendar lists no Topps product at all.

Why a Quiet Week Is Worth a Video

Analysis: The weekly release rundown is a format that lives on abundance — there is always a box to preview, always a checklist to walk. An episode about a week with nothing in it is a harder sell, and a channel that files one anyway is doing the part of the job that gets skipped when the news is good. Collectors budget around these calendars. A week with no Topps product is information, particularly with Bowman Chrome Baseball landing the following week and a hockey slate opening the month for Upper Deck.

The Verdict

The interesting thing about this video is not the news; it is the headline. Card Curiosity has said "huge" twice in the last fortnight and has now said "slow," about the same subject, in the same weekly slot. When a channel built on release-week enthusiasm files the quiet week anyway, the calendar behind the claim is worth reading — and the calendar, this week, has no Topps on it.
