Video of the Day: EA Sports Cards Pits Three 2026 Topps Update Retail Formats Against Each Other, and Each Package Carries Its Own Exclusive Parallel
2026 Topps Update Series Baseball went on sale Oct. 14 at noon Eastern on Topps.com, and the same day EA Sports Cards posted a retail-only comparison: "I Opened EVERY 2026 Topps Update Series Retail Box… Which Is BEST?!"
The video puts three retail formats head-to-head. The channel frames it as a hunt for "the most BANG FOR YOUR BUCK" across three price points. The thumbnail shows the three packages side by side, and their printed copy makes the comparison more interesting than a price ladder: each one advertises a different exclusive parallel.
Three Packages, Three Exclusives
Reading the packaging in the thumbnail, left to right:
- Value Box: "Exclusive base card Holiday parallels," and on the side panel, six packs of twelve cards, 72 in all.
- Hanger Box: "Hanger exclusive base card Diamante parallels."
- Retail pack: 36 cards, with "retail exclusive base card holo foil parallels" plus relic and autograph relic cards to look for.
Topps' own box guide for the release, published Sept. 15, confirms the Value Box half of that. It lists four formats: Hobby, Hobby Jumbo, Value Box and, new for 2026, Fanatics Box. The Value Box is six packs of twelve cards built around three Value Box Exclusive Holiday Base Card parallels per box, drawn from six holiday designs that appear in no other format. The guide describes it as the box for "set builders and casual collectors who want an accessible, high-volume way to work through the checklist."
The 350-card base set is the same in every format, and every card carries the Topps 75th Anniversary logo. Hobby buyers get one autograph or relic per box and a full rainbow of hobby-only parallels down to a one-of-one Foilfractor.
Analysis: On retail shelves, the exclusives are split across packages instead, and that changes what "which is best" means. A Value Box, a hanger and a single pack differ in price and card count, but they also differ in which parallel can come out of them, and a Holiday parallel is only ever going to come from a Value Box. Someone chasing a Diamante has one choice of package, whatever the per-card arithmetic says. A head-to-head that ranks the three on pulls is also, in effect, ranking three different chase cards.
A Channel That Lives in the Retail Aisle
The format comparison is not a one-off for EA Sports Cards. Eleven of its fifteen most recent uploads name a retail format or a store in the title, from 2026 Bowman Football Value Boxes and Mega Boxes to a Walmart-exclusive Topps Flagship Football Mega Box, a Costco Super Box, and "I Found Sports Cards at Stores You'd NEVER Expect!" On Sept. 28 the channel ran the same question on football: "Walmart Exclusive vs Regular Topps Flagship Football… Which Is Better?!"
Analysis: That makes this video part of a running series of retail comparisons, which is the best reason to watch it alongside the channel's earlier ones. Treat any one video's results as a handful of boxes, not odds: three packages opened once each is a small sample.
What to Watch For
The video's description promises the channel's "biggest pulls" and its verdict at the end, and both belong to the channel. Watch it for the three openings and for whether the Holiday, Diamante and holo foil parallels actually turn up. Before you pick a package, though, check Topps' guide for the Value Box contents and the packaging for the hanger's and the pack's exclusives. Which parallel you want may settle the question before the price does.
Verdict: EA Sports Cards asks which 2026 Topps Update retail format is the best value. The packaging adds a second question: which exclusive parallel do you want? Watch the video for the pulls, and read the box before you buy one.
