Video of the Day: Grip n Rip's "Watch Before You Buy" for 2026 Topps Heritage Football, Out Oct. 21 in the 1976 Design
Grip n Rip Sports Cards posted "WATCH BEFORE YOU BUY 2026 TOPPS HERITAGE FOOTBALL" on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026. The product it previews reaches stores on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Topps' product page gives that as the release day, so today is the last day this one is a "before you buy."
What Topps Says Is in the Box
Topps describes 2026 Heritage Football as bringing "the look and feel of 1976 Topps Football to a new generation of collectors." The base set is "inspired by the unmistakable 1976 design," and two Heritage staples return: League Leaders and Real One Autographs.
The configuration on the hobby box page is short. "8 Cards Per Pack. 20 Packs Per Box. One autograph or relic card per box."
Two inserts are new. All-Pro Series "pays homage to the 24-card 1976 Wonder Bread Football set, reimagined with 24 All-Pro standouts from the 2025 NFL season." The Expansion "celebrates the NFL's 1976 expansion era, featuring the 28 teams that made up the league" at the time.
On Oct. 20, the day before release, Topps' own store listed every format on the page as sold out: Hobby Box, Mega Box, Value Box and Mega Case.
The Box on the Thumbnail
The thumbnail puts a 2026 Heritage box beside the title in block letters. The box front is a card of Walter Payton, captioned "RUNNING BACK," with a "BEARS" emblem in the lower corner, under the line "TODAY'S STARS AND LEGENDS, REIMAGINED IN THE ICONIC 1976 TOPPS FOOTBALL DESIGN." The box also carries "LOOK FOR MEGA EXCLUSIVE SPARKLE PARALLELS" and, in small print, "The cards shown may not necessarily be the ones inside."
Analysis: Payton is a natural cover for a set built on 1976. His rookie card is #148 in that year's Topps football set, the subject of CASE #0109. A Payton box front points straight back to that card. The box's own fine print warns against reading the art as a checklist, so the picture is a theme, not a promise of what is inside.
The Channel's Routine
Grip n Rip publishes once a day, and its last 15 uploads, Oct. 5 through Oct. 19, all have Topps in the title. They run in a few repeating formats. Five are "Watch Before You Buy" or "Watch Before You Preorder" videos. Three are "The Best Way to Buy" a product. Two are "Top 10 Most Valuable Cards" lists, and two are odds breakdowns. Allen & Ginter got four of those in its week, starting Oct. 5, and Topps Update got four between Oct. 10 and Oct. 14.
Heritage Football got the "Watch Before You Buy" episode, and preorder guides for Topps Pro Debut and Topps Chrome Football followed on the next two days. Two of the other uploads in the run are commentary: "THESE TOPPS PRICE INCREASES ARE OUT OF CONTROL!" on Oct. 11 and "THIS LATEST TOPPS CONTROVERSY NEVER NEEDED TO HAPPEN" on Oct. 9.
Analysis: The channel works through Topps' release calendar one product at a time, and the episode titles tell a viewer which stage of a release they are watching. This one is the buyer's guide, filed five days out, for a product whose formats Topps' own store had sold out of by the eve of release.
Verdict: Grip n Rip's buyer's guide for 2026 Topps Heritage Football lands on the eve of release. Topps' own page supplies the facts: 8 cards a pack, 20 packs a box, one autograph or relic a box, a 1976 design and two new 1976-themed inserts. Watch the video for the channel's take on whether to buy.
