Ohtani's 1/1 Dual Gold Logoman Sells for $11 Million — The Bounty Chase Is Over
The bounty chase is over. The 1-of-1 Shohei Ohtani Back-to-Back Dual Gold Logoman Autograph — the card this blog tracked through a $10 million preemptive bounty in CASE #0199 — has been pulled, sold, and priced at $11 million. It is now the third-most-expensive sports card ever sold publicly.
It did not surface at a major auction house. It came out of a jumbo case a collector bought from his local shop and opened on his own kitchen table.
Found in the Second Case
The collector purchased two jumbo cases of 2026 Topps Chrome Baseball from Boca Sports Cards in Boca Raton, Florida, and opened them at home. Each case holds eight boxes. He hit the Ohtani redemption in the first box of the second case. The shop posted the pull to social media, and the hobby's most expensive manhunt was effectively over. As is standard for a card of this construction, what came out of the pack was a redemption — the physical card gets built and shipped after Topps processes the claim.
The buyer is high-end collector Matthew Allen — also known by the handles shyne150 and Bolillo Lajan San — one of three principals of Secure Collectibles alongside "Shark Tank" investor Kevin O'Leary and Paul Warshaw. Allen told ESPN directly that he paid $11 million. "The card just resonated deep with me, and I was like, you know what, I have to get this card," he said. On Instagram he put it more bluntly: "To make it very clear, I paid over $10 million for the card."
By Allen's own account, Secure Collectibles has bought roughly $250 million of high-end cards — including the record-setting Jordan/Bryant Logoman — with the intent of holding most of them for at least a decade.
Where $11 Million Lands
The sale slots into third place on the all-time public sports card list:
- $12.932M — 2007-08 Upper Deck Exquisite Dual Logoman Auto, Michael Jordan / Kobe Bryant (August 2025)
- $12.6M — 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle, SGC 9.5 (August 2022)
- $11M — 2026 Topps Chrome Ohtani Back-to-Back Dual Gold Logoman 1/1 (July 2026)
Just off the podium, a 2006-07 Upper Deck Exquisite dual autograph of Jordan and LeBron James sold for $10 million in September.
For Ohtani specifically, it is a demolition of his own ceiling. His previous high was the $3.365 million 2018 Bowman Chrome Superfractor (BGS 9.5) we covered in CASE #0171, a private deal brokered by Fanatics Collect on July 14 — a record that stood about two weeks. This is the fifth million-dollar Ohtani card sale since December. Before that, his 2025 Topps Chrome Gold Logoman 1/1 brought $3 million through Fanatics Collect in December, and an Ohtani/Judge dual 1/1 hit $2.16 million in March.
What's Actually On the Card
The design is the reason the number is the number. The card carries two game-worn gold MLB Logoman patches, paired with two separate autographs: his standard English signature at the top and his considerably scarcer Kanji signature at the bottom. A gold 1/1 stamp sits in the corner.
The patches need a word of explanation, because the shorthand gets it wrong. Players who win MVP, Cy Young or Rookie of the Year wear a special gold logo patch on their uniform the following season. So these are not patches from Ohtani's 2024 and 2025 MVP campaigns — they are patches he wore because of them. One comes from a road game in Baltimore on September 7, 2025, when he hit two home runs; the other from a home game on April 12, 2026, when he also homered. Two gold patches earned by back-to-back MVPs and two signature styles on a single card has no real precedent in the modern hobby.
A Bounty That Was Never Collected
Worth being precise here, because the framing matters: Grade10, the Hong Kong trading card venture that announced the headline $10 million bounty on July 28, did not end up with the card. That offer was a standing public bid, not a transaction. It was Allen's smaller $6.5 million Instagram bounty that actually did the work — the collector who pulled the card reached out to him.
Allen has been candid that the point of the bounty was visibility, not the number itself. "I needed to let everyone know I wanted this card because it was ripping so rapidly that the chances were that it was going to come out soon," he told ESPN. He had spent the days since the July 22 release buying into breaks, trying to land it himself.
The two sides negotiated late Tuesday night and closed the next morning — at $11 million, some $4.5 million above the bounty that started the conversation. "There's never been a bounty of $6.5 million in history, so it was a strong number," Allen said. "In hindsight, it was soft, but it got the job done because it did what it needed to."
That is the lesson worth extracting: the biggest public number did not win the card. The one attached to a buyer the finder could actually reach did.
The Chase Isn't Finished
Two more Gold Logoman 1/1s from the same 2026 Topps Chrome Baseball release, which hit shelves July 22, are still in circulation: an Aaron Judge card commemorating back-to-back American League MVP seasons, and a Tarik Skubal card for consecutive AL Cy Young Awards. Neither has been pulled.
Meanwhile, at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Rosemont, Illinois this week, an Ohtani/Aaron Judge Dual Gold Logoman was pulled on the show floor Thursday — a reminder that the chase cards from this release are still live and still landing in public.
Verdict: an $11 million card came out of a retail case someone opened at his own kitchen table. Whatever else 2026 is doing to this hobby, it has not stopped rewarding the person who just opens the pack.
Confidence note: The $11 million price, Allen's direct quotes, the two-jumbo-case pull at Boca Sports Cards, the all-time ranking with the Jordan/Bryant ($12.932M, August 2025) and Mantle SGC 9.5 ($12.6M, August 2022) figures, the patch game dates, the negotiation timeline, the $250 million Secure Collectibles portfolio, and the $3.365 million prior Ohtani high are all reported by ESPN, which spoke to Allen directly. Sports Collectors Digest independently confirms the price, the ranking and the patch dates. Yahoo Sports confirms the Grade10 $10 million bounty, Allen's Instagram wording, the July 22 release date, and the un-pulled Judge and Skubal Logoman cards. Prior Ohtani figures and the Grade10 bounty timeline also draw on our own reporting in CASE #0171 and CASE #0199.
