Baseball America and Panini have teamed up on a new Panini Instant set featuring six of the top 2026 MLB Draft picks, with BA branding on the front and scouting report excerpts on the back. The set went live July 24 at 3 p.m. ET, with base cards available for about five days and low-numbered parallels and autographs available until sold out.

The partnership is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between the scouting publication and Panini, giving the card company a baseball presence despite lacking the MLB/MLBPA license that would allow it to use official team branding. Topps is the sole licensed MLB card producer under the current Fanatics-owned structure; Panini's workaround is to partner with an independent scouting source rather than the league or players' association.

Leading the six-player drop is Roch Cholowsky, the No. 1 overall pick who went to the Chicago White Sox.

The Cards

The base cards are on sale for approximately five days from launch — ending around July 29 at 3 p.m. ET — an intentionally limited window that sets the final print run. After that, base cards are gone. Parallels and autographed versions remain available until they sell out.

The parallel breakdown:

  • Base cards — available for approximately five days (ending ~July 29 at 3 p.m. ET)
  • Metallic parallels — numbered to /5
  • 1/1 Galaxy parallel — one-of-one
  • Autographed base — numbered to /99
  • Gold autographed parallel — numbered to /10
  • 1/1 Galaxy autographed parallel — one-of-one

All six players in the initial drop receive base cards and the full parallel lineup.

The Lineup

The six players featured in the debut release:

  • Roch Cholowsky — No. 1 overall, Chicago White Sox, SS, Hamilton HS, AZ
  • Grady Emerson — No. 2 overall, Colorado Rockies, SS/OF, Argyle HS, TX
  • AJ Gracia — No. 9 overall, Texas Rangers, OF, Arlington, TX
  • Jacob Lombard — No. 14 overall, San Diego Padres, SS, Jesuit HS, FL
  • Gio Rojas — No. 16 overall, Tampa Bay Rays, RHP, Texas A&M
  • Justin Lebron — No. 18 overall, Atlanta Braves, SS, UF commit, FL

Every player is a high school or college prospect who signed within days before their first pro card hit the market — a turnaround that Panini Instant's print-on-demand model makes possible and traditional manufacturers can't match.

What This Means for the Hobby

This partnership is significant for two reasons.

First, it gives Panini a baseball card presence despite lacking an MLB or MLBPA license. By partnering with Baseball America — a trusted independent scouting publication, not a league or players' association — Panini sidesteps the exclusive licensing structure that currently locks Topps in as the sole licensed MLB card manufacturer. The cards show the Baseball America logo, not an MLB or team mark, and use scouting report text rather than MLB-owned statistics or imagery.

Second, it creates a new category of prospect card. Baseball America's scouting reports, rankings, and draft coverage are already the gold standard for pre-professional player evaluation. Putting those reports directly on the back of a trading card issued days after the draft is a value proposition that exists nowhere else in the market. For prospecting collectors, a BA-branded card of a top draft pick with an exclusive scouting report excerpt might carry more weight than a generic base card from a licensed set that won't ship for months.

Time-Sensitive Opportunity

The base cards will only be available through approximately July 29 at 3 p.m. ET. After that, the only way to get these cards will be the secondary market. Panini Instant drops have a history of appreciating quickly when the print window closes — especially for 1/1 parallels and low-numbered autographs of top picks.

Among the parallels, the Cholowsky 1/1 galaxy auto is the scarcest single card in the set by definition, but which player holds the most long-term value will depend on how their professional careers unfold. For $0 of additional cost beyond the card itself, each base card includes a Baseball America scouting report on the back — making this one of the most information-rich prospect releases the hobby has seen.
