The 2009 Topps #321 Stephen Curry keeps it simple: a white border, a "ROOKIE CARD" tag, a Warriors logo and a nameplate that lists him as a guard. PSA has graded 6,186 copies, and the curve peaks at PSA 8, with 2,130 copies there, 1,614 PSA 9s and 371 PSA 10s.

The Player

Golden State took Curry seventh overall in the 2009 NBA Draft, out of Davidson. In college he had set the NCAA single-season record for three-pointers made, 162 as a sophomore, and led Division I in scoring as a junior. He made his NBA debut on Oct. 28, 2009.

Curry won his first MVP in 2014-15, the same season the Warriors won their first championship since 1975. The next season he became the first player voted MVP unanimously. Titles followed in 2017 and 2018, and in 2022 he won a fourth championship along with his first Finals MVP. That same season he passed Ray Allen to become the NBA's all-time leader in three-pointers made.

The Card

Topps' design here stays out of the way. The photo fills most of the card: a young, smiling Curry in white against a blurred red background. The Topps logo sits top left and a red "ROOKIE CARD" tag top right. Along the bottom, a dark navy band carries the Warriors logo and the nameplate "STEPHEN CURRY / GUARD." There's a basketball outline in the lower-left corner, and a thin white border frames everything.

The copy pictured is a PSA GEM MT 10, cert 41576128. Its label reads "2009 TOPPS / STEPHEN CURRY / #321."

Reading the Curve

PSA 8 is the peak. Its 2,130 copies outnumber the 1,614 PSA 9s, and the 9s in turn outnumber the 10s by more than four to one. Going down the scale, the curve falls off steadily: 1,072 PSA 7s, 602 PSA 6s and 234 PSA 5s, then a thin tail into the low grades.

The 371 tens come to about 6 percent of the 6,186 graded. That fits the shape of the curve: this card lands at 8 more often than at 9 or 10.

The half grades add depth just below the top. PSA has issued 340 half grades, and 280 of them are 8.5s, which puts a crowd of near-misses between the 8s and 9s. Another 49 copies sit at 7.5. Qualifiers are rare, just six in total. Eighteen copies came back Authentic, which is counted inside the 6,186. With the half grades and qualifiers included, PSA has slabbed 6,532 copies of this card.

Verdict: A plain white-bordered Topps rookie card of the NBA's all-time leader in three-pointers made. Its population peaks at PSA 8, not 9 or 10, and that is the main thing to know about a high-grade copy. Only 371 of 6,186 have reached the top.
